Advent is the first season of the church year. It always has four Sundays, but the number of days in the season varies from year to year. The First Sunday of Advent is the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day (December 25).

The color for this season is sarum blue or purple. The change from purple is to differentiate Advent from Lent. Advent is a season of reflection and anticipation. We look for the coming of Christ in two ways. One is a rememberance of his coming birth. The second is the second coming in glory.

"Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming." Matthew 24:42
